1915-S Panama-Pacific $2.5 Gold Commemorative - About Uncirculated

Grade: About Uncirculated

Struck as part of the celebration of the opening of the Panama Canal these coins were stuck at the San Francisco mint and sold for $4 during the exposition.  An impressively low final mintage of just 6,749 coins has made this coin both highly sought after and fairly scarce.

The obverse displays Columbia riding a hippocampus meant to illustrate medicines triumph over yellow fever during the construction of the Panama Canal.
